Based on a ten-year study, I analysed the distribution, nesting, foraging and protection of the Golden Eagle in the Zemplén-Mountains. During the study period between 1985 and 1995, the number of nesting pairs increased from I to 4. Nests were located on steep slopes in old, sparse beech stands. The reproduction success depended mainly on forestry management. The list of preys was diverse, according to the heterogenous foraging areas. The management of Golden Eagles has been performed by the Zemplén Local Group of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society.
