Abstract:

A White Stork population nesting in 30 settlements in a 1000 knf area of North Bicska (southern Hungary) was studied in 1994 and 1999. The number of nests was 79 and 84, of which 68 and 64 were occupied in 1994 and 1999, respectively The number and proportion of nests built on electricity poles have increased since 1973. The nesting success was lower in 1999 (2.53 young per nest) than in 1994 (3.30 young per nest), possibly due to the wet and stormy weather during the breeding season. The article also presents information on the recaptures of 1050 individuals ringed between 1973 and 1999 and the results of an analysis of stork pellets in 1999.
